Underwater Observatory
Oceanographic underwater observatory.
The underwater observatory integrates seismic sensors, acoustic instruments, oceanographic probes and geochemical monitoring systems within a robust seafloor platform capable of operating at depths of up to 7.000 meters.
The system is designed to support both real-time monitoring through submarine cables and autonomous monitoring through satellite communication systems. Continuous monitoring of seismic activity and ocean bottom pressure variations can significantly enhance the early detection of tsunami waves during their propagation phase.
In addition, high-resolution seismic data collected directly on the seafloor allow researchers to better understand earthquake mechanisms and improve seismic hazard models.
